CITY OF CENTERVILLE <br />REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />Agenda Item # Department: Requested Council Meeting Date: <br />May 22, 2024 <br />Administration <br />WS 1 <br />TITLE OF ISSUE: <br />Cannabis Sales Zoning <br />BACKGROUND AND SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: <br />Staff recently received our first inquiry about zoning for a retail cannabis shop. As council may be aware, the <br />sale of cannabis will be legal as soon as the state has a functioning office of cannabis management. The city is <br />required to allow a minimum of one cannabis shop in our city, based on our population. City's may regulate <br />cannabis sales like any other product such as tobacco or alcohol in that it may set areas where its sale is <br />prohibited (e.g. 300 feet from a school, 300 feet from a day care, etc.).
