Staff requested quotes for free standing or surface mounted handrail along the south side
of the sidewalk from the parking lot to city hall entrance.
Free Standing Rail
The free stand rail system would be poles offset 4” from the sidewalk every 5’ with 6” x
24” concrete footing which would allow for future replacement of the sidewalk. The cost
for this would be $11,200-$13,500 depending on style and finish.
Surface Mounted Rail
A surface mounted system would require 8” x 42” footings and cost $22,000.00.
Staff also requested a quote to replace the existing sidewalk and install a new one within
the same area. This would include #3 steel rods every 3’ on center in both directions,
4500psi concrete, a medium broom finish with cure and seal applied when completed.
This cost would be $7,625.00.
Staff Recommendation
Staff is recommending the installation of a free standing rail at a cost not to exceed
$13,500.
