Engine #1 Commissioning
Centennial Fire District members, along with friends, family and elected officials took part in an age-old
tradition of pushing the new fire engine into the station. The practice dates to the 1800s when horse-drawn
fire pumps needed to be pushed into the fire station upon their return from a fire, since the horses weren’t
able to back up. The engine was purchased by the department to replace a 25+ year old engine. The price
tag on the new apparatus was a lot more than it would have been 5 years ago, but we were lucky enough to
get it at a significantly lower price than neighboring agencies have had to pay for the same vehicle. Centennial Fire District continues to attract new recruits to joint the ranks, putting our
communities in the increasingly rare position to continue to have a volunteer (paid on call) fire department.
