City of Centerville
City Council Meeting Minutes
August 14, 2024

Ms. Johnson also stated that there are over 20 single family homes zoned as M-1 or M-2 and that
the means that these citizens are technically living in homes that are in non-conforming use of their
property and are limited in their ability to improve or update their properties. Ms. Johnson added
that we owe them the opportunity to reconsider their zoning due to the lack of development
downtown, and the opportunity to improve their home. Ms. Johnson opined that the LaLonde
property should have never been zoned high density; the opportunity to engage a large apartment
developer should have never been an option; and the property should be preserved. Ms. Johnson
further stated that the property is beautiful, and it's a beautiful representation of the importance of
open space and greenery across our city and in our plans, adding that our city is in desperate need
of consistency across our documentation, and we need to improve our town operations in
accordance. Ms. Johnson said that tonight alone, we have a proposal that intrusive introduces yet
another barometer for what's acceptable within high density. 12-30 units to 45 units and now 20
units; adding that we have to stop introducing additional inconsistencies. Ms. Johnson concluded
that if the vision from these documents were to come to life she would not want to live here. Ms.
Johnson asked the Council to let residents help plan together, because she really loves this town,
and she thinks we can find a way to make it more beautiful together.

16.
