CITY OF CENTERVILLE <br />REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />s <br />e terviffe <br />E.stabi •fished 1857 <br />Agenda Item # <br />Department: <br />Requested Council Meeting Date: <br />IX.2 <br />Administration <br />January 8, 2025 <br />TITLE OF ISSUE: <br />Resolution to Not Waive Tort Liability Limits <br />BACKGROUND AND SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: <br />Each year, the League of Minnesota Cities Insurance Trust (LMCIT) asks each City Council, as part of the <br />insurance contract renewal process, to decide if they want to waive the Minnesota State statutory liability limits. <br />Those limits are $500,000 for an individual claimant and $1,500,000 for all claimants for a single incident. If <br />liability limits are waived, then the liability limit goes up to $2,000,000 per claimant and per incident. Staff is <br />proposing that the City Council elect to not waive the <br />liability limits, just as it has in past years.
