<br />City of Centerville <br />Parks & Recreation Meeting Minutes <br />June 5, 2024 <br />c. Offering free entries for businesses that have organized fitness programs. It was <br />decided to eliminate this action for 2024 <br />Committee Member Akpan inquired if there was a minimum age for the volunteers for the Paddle <br />Board event. Currently, there is not a minimum age requirement. <br /> <br />4. Special Event Permit Application – Anoka County Radio Club <br /> <br />An application was received from the Anoka County Radio Club to hold their annual ACRC/ARRL <br />Field Day, 2024 in the parking lot at Laurie LaMotte Memorial Park from Friday evening, June <br />strd <br />21 through Sunday afternoon, July 23, with an anticipated attendance of 25 to 30 over the <br />weekend. They would also appreciate the use of the bathrooms, park facilities, trails, table & <br />unoccupied fields. This annual event has been held in Centerville for many years. They have also <br />been active in other community events. <br /> <br />Motion by Committee Member Peterson, seconded by Committee Member Seeley to <br />recommend to the Council the approval of the Anoka County Radio Clubs’s use of Laurie <br />LaMotte Memorial Park for their Field Day events from June 21 through June 23, 2024. All <br />in favor. Motion carried. <br /> <br />5. Park Facility Permit Application – Graduation Party <br /> <br />An application was received from Ms. Julie Swanson for the use of Hidden Spring Park on Sunday, <br />th <br />June 9 from 10:00 am to 7:30 pm. for a graduation party. <br /> <br />Motion by Committee Member Peterson, seconded by Committee Member Akpan to <br />recommend to the Council the approval of the use of Hidden Spring Park on Sunday, June <br />9, <br />92024 from 10:00 am to 7:30 pm, for a graduation party. All in favor. Motion carried. <br /> <br />6. Kayak Price Increase <br /> <br />The original information was received from Whenever Watersports regarding partnering with the <br />City of Centerville to provide a dedicated Kayak Kiosk/station with 4 kayaks for the public to rent. <br />The price quoted was $9,999 but that was their Spring Special, a limited time offer for the first <br />five communities which accepted this offer to partner with them. A recommendation to Council <br />to approve the selected package was approved, but upon follow up contact with the company the <br />pricing had gone up significantly, to $14,999 due to labor and materials increases. However, the <br />company did offer a discount of 10% on the revised price due to our interest and length of time it <br /> <br />has taken to get approval. The committee is waiting for the city attorney to complete his review <br />of the contract and suggest any language changes if needed. <br /> <br />As previously discussed, Lakeside Park had been selected as the most suitable location for the <br />Kayak Kiosk with the hope of utilizing the club’s dock. After communication with the Bald Eagle <br />Waterski Club, City Clerk Bender shared with the committee members that the club had some very <br /> <br />Page 3 of 6 <br /> <br />
