<br />City of Centerville <br />Parks & Recreation Committee Meeting Minutes <br />September 4, 2024 <br /> <br /> <br />Motion by Committee Member Port, seconded by Committee Member Akpan to pursue <br />options to install an additional monument/memorial within the park by the formation of a <br />sub-committee. All in favor. Motion carried. <br /> <br />3. Adaptive Play Equipment. <br /> <br />Park Dedication Fund/Adaptive Play Equipment <br /> <br />City Administrator Statz stated that the Park Dedication Fund had approximately $400,000 <br />available for the purchase of new equipment. <br /> <br />He stated that Council approved the committee’s Capital Equipment Replacement Plan and in <br />addition to the 40,000 per year for the next 4 years to be transferred from the city’s General Fund <br />for P & R Capital Equipment Replacement Fund (CERF), they also transferred a one-time <br />$100,000 from the city’s General Fund’s to the P & R’s CERF, to accelerate the repair, maintenance <br />and replacement of existing playground equipment. <br /> <br />City Administrator Statz reviewed the recommendations the P & R Committee made to City <br />Council in August. Upon review of that information, Council Members made a few modifications <br />to the recommendations: <br /> Changing the year for the addition of the New Adaptive Play Equipment at Laurie LaMotte <br />Memorial Park from 2030 to 2025 at a cost of $170,000. The new equipment would be <br />inclusive with adaptive play items similar to those chosen by the committee in August (swing, <br />Merry Musical, Sensory Wave Horseshoe and Roller Table). <br /> Major repairs to be completed in 2024/2025 at Acorn Creek Park with a budget of $45,000. <br />Staff is moving forward with ordering the replacement decking for the play structure. <br /> Changing the year for replacement equipment at Royal Meadows from 2025 to 2030. <br /> <br />City Administrator Statz stated that staff would be obtaining Requests for Proposals from play <br />equipment vendors going forward, with the committee participating in the decision making for the <br />purchase along with if any equipment being salvageable or salable. He stated that the Requests <br />for Proposals will include the selections similar to or those that were determined by the committee <br />previous for the adaptive equipment and new equipment ensuring a cohesive structure for all <br />abilities not to exceed $427,000 and taking vendors recommendations for equipment. <br /> <br />Installation of new equipment is anticipated in 2025 allowing time for obtaining the RFPs, <br />committee consideration and ordering schedules along with vendor installation schedules. <br /> <br />Motion by Committee Member Akpan, seconded by Committee Member Freiermuth to <br />recommend to the City Council to obtain bids and install $427,000 worth of equipment at <br />Laurie LaMotte Memorial Park in 2025, which will offer a range of experiences for all, and <br />to amend the Park Equipment Capital Replacement Plan accordingly.
