<br /> <br />City of Centerville <br />Parks & Recreation Committee Meeting Minutes <br />September 4, 2024 <br /> <br /> Cut Brush and Weeds in Cornerstone Park <br /> Placed Black Dirt & Seed (Restoration near Hydration Station) in Acorn Creek Park <br /> Installed New Drain Near the Play Structure(s) in Laurie LaMotte Memorial Park <br /> Placed Mulch in Playground Fall Zones in Acorn, Tracie Joy McBride Memorial & Eagle <br />Parks <br /> <br />Committee Member Peterson had the opportunity to visit a few of the parks and noted the <br />following: that the newly placed mulch looks good, there were nicely done repairs made to some <br />of the playground equipment and how well the colors of the repainted equipment matched the <br />original colors. He also stated that there are several picnic tables that are showing signs of wear, <br />discoloration and minor damage. <br /> <br />2. Committee Member Updates – Committee Member Peterson <br /> <br />a. Music in the Park <br /> <br />This weekly event has concluded for the summer. New dates for 2025 will need to be set and <br />future discussion regarding funding of some additional and/or replacement equipment. <br /> <br />b. Movie in the Park <br /> <br />This annual event is scheduled to begin at 7:30 pm or dusk on Saturday, September 14, at Laurie <br />LaMotte Memorial Park. The movie, concessions (popcorn & lemonade) should begin at 5:30 <br />p.m. Volunteers will be needed for both the set-up and during the movie presentation. The movie <br />selected for this year is The Garfield Movie, with special thanks to Committee Members Port and <br />Loomis for their input and suggestions. Thanks to city staff for placing a poster for this event in <br />the Kiosk and Committee Member Peterson placed posters on a sandwich board in Laurie LaMotte <br />Park. The projector has been reserved from EMI Audio and a blue-ray copy of the movie has been <br />secured. <br /> <br />c. Skate Nights – 2025 <br /> <br />thth <br />The dates for the 2025 Skate Nights will be Friday, January 10 and Saturday, February 15. In <br />addition to skating, there will be sledding activities. Wargo Nature Center will be contacted <br />regarding what type of equipment which can be available and pricing for same. Refreshments <br />planned to be served will be popcorn, hot chocolate and s’mores. In addition, there will be a <br />bonfire and music playing during this event. Staff will reach out regarding the cost of having horse <br />drawn sleigh rides. Volunteers will be needed for sharing any new ideas for other activities during <br />these events, shopping for ingredients, helping with set up for the event and as helpers during the <br />events. <br /> <br />3. Council Liaison Update – Mr. Terry Sweeney <br /> <br />Council Liaison Sweeney reported that the council reviewed the committee’s capital replacement <br />plan and a $100,000 (on time) was moved into the General Fund’s Capital Equipment Replacement <br />Fund.
