Targeted National Advertisement <br />Mailed “Invitation to Apply” Flyers <br />Email Outreach <br />Personal Calls by Lead Consultants <br />Targeted Advertisement - We develop a custom national advertisement plan highlighting your City and the <br />City Administrator opening placing ads in websites and job boards including: <br />Intl. City/County Managers Assoc. (ICMA) Iowa League of Cities <br />Association of Minnesota Counties League of Nebraska Municipalities <br />League of Minnesota Cities Michigan Municipal League <br />Minnesota City/County Management Assoc. Careers in Government <br />Iowa City/County Management Assoc. Government Jobs <br />Wisconsin City/County Management Assoc. GMP Job Board <br />League of Wisconsin Municipalities GMP LinkedIn <br /> <br />Invitation to Apply Letter & Customized Candidate Database – We create a customized Invitation to Apply <br />flyer (examples are included) and then develop a database of potential city management candidates. We will <br />mail approximately 900 to 1000 Invitation to Apply flyers to city administrators/managers in cities, of <br />comparable size in the mid-western United States. <br />Email Outreach – We will send email announcements to our database of 3,400 city administrator/manager <br />emails. <br />Personal Calls by our Lead Consultants – We will reach out to potential candidates who might be a good fit <br />or who are looking for their next challenge. We will also reach out to our personal knowledge of City <br />Administrators to make them aware of your opportunity. <br />C ANDIDATE A PPLICATION & S CREENING <br />Candidate Application Materials <br />Application - Candidates are asked to submit a cover letter, application, resume and answers to <br />supplemental questions (designed to measure writing and thinking skills) and five professional <br />references of peer, subordinates and supervisors <br />City Council Communication - We provide the Council with a summary of the advertising strategy, the <br />number of applications and the number of candidates selected for a preliminary interview <br />City Council Review of Applications – Occasionally some Councils wish to review all the application <br />materials prior to the selection of candidates for a preliminary interview. We are happy to facilitate <br />this process if asked, but have found that many Councils appreciate not having to review applications <br />of not qualified applicants and trust in our selection of the most promising applications including <br />several that might be considered to have perhaps marginal qualifications in an effort to be thorough <br /> <br />Preliminary Candidate Interviews – Once a candidate has indicated an interest in the position, we review all <br />candidate application materials and: <br />Select the Most Promising Candidates - Identify the most promising candidates for a preliminary <br />interview <br />Internet Review - Conduct an in-depth internet inquiry on each candidate to identify any concerning <br />issues to be reviewed with the candidate <br />Preliminary Interview – Your lead consultant conducts a preliminary interview with the most <br />promising candidates (we can record these for Council’s review if asked) <br />Written Summary - Provide a written summary of our observations of the candidates strength, <br />weakness and potential fit with the City <br />Recommendations - Provide our recommendations on each candidate for consideration <br />72 <br /> <br />
