CITY OF CENTERVILLE REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION Agenda Item Department: Requested Council Meeting Date: February 12, 2025 Administration # WS TITLE OF ISSUE: City Planner Retirement BACKGROUND AND SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: The city's planning consultant, Phil Carlson, of Stantec, is planning to retire in June. This may, therefore, be a good time to send out requests for proposals (RFPs) for this service. This also aligns with our previously discussed timeline for beginning work on the Comprehensive Plan update (2050 Plan). Staff suggests sending out two RFPs: one for day-to-day planning work and the other for the Comp Plan update. While the work is similar, the proposals for each may be quite a bit different and it is not uncommon for the city's regular planner to be different from the consultant doing the Comp Plan. These RFPs would go out in April, to be received and evaluated in May, with an intent to begin work in June. It is staff's desire to continue working with Mr. Carlson through his retirement or until a new planner can be brought on board.
