2025 Private Property Inflow & Infiltration (I&I) Grant Program
Beyond the personal expense, excess inflow and infiltration has additional community and
environmental impacts. Combined, Met Council and other communities in Minnesota have
invested billions of dollars to successfully remove excess clear water from public infrastructure
connected to the wastewater system, but evidence of inflow and infiltration still exists. ThatÓs why
the Met Council now has funding to offer grants to help with those costly repairs.
The Metropolitan Council Environmental Services (MCES) has launched a private property I&I
grant program. The goal of the program is to assist private property owners with financial
assistance to remove I&I from the regional interceptor system through repairs of the sewer lateral
or foundation drain on the property.
Centerville is participating in this MCES Private I&I grant program to help you with the costs of
repairing ipes and other infrastructure that may be contributing clear water to the
wastewater system. The city has been awarded$41,000 in grant funding to be used by residents in
2025.
Eligibility and Eligible Projects
Grant awards may be 50% of eligible costs up to a maximum grant of $5,000 (i.e. $5k max grant
for $10k project). Grants to private property owners shall be for a percentage of actual, reasonable,
and verifiable I&I mitigation costs. No costs of studies, engineering, or planning shall be eligible.
Qualified spending on eligible work must occur between January 1, 2025, and December 31,
2025.
Equity
The Met CouncilÓs grant program allows for grants above the 50% threshold for homes which meet
the cityÓs equity criteria. The criteria may be set by each individual city to best meet their needs.
Centerville has determined that to best serve our community, those with homes older than 25 years
will qualify for enhanced grant funding under the equity criteria.
The city has set the participation level for Equity Grants at 75% of project costs, with a maximum
grant of $7,500 (i.e. max grant of $7.5k for $10k project)
In summary:
Standard Grant50% Grant$5,000 Max Grant Award (on $10k project)
Equity Grant (home is 25+ years old)75% Grant$7,500 Max Grant Award (on $10k project)
Examples of Eligible I/I Repairs
o Private sewer service lateral repair and/or replacement
o Foundation drain disconnections and new sump pump, if associated with the foundation
drain disconnect
50
