March 26, 2025 <br />Dear Governor Walz, Lieutenant Governor Flanagan and Legislative Leaders: <br />The City of Centerville respectfully asks you to protect Local Government Aid (LGA) funding <br />to make sure there are no reductions that could negatively impact city budgets, and support <br />legislation to restore annual in Ǐ ation adjustments. <br />The City relies on LGA funding for property tax relief and to support essential services like <br />public safety, roads, and emergency response. <br />Inconsistent funding levels create budgeting diiculties, and the city of Centerville has been <br />directly impacted by Ǐ uctuations in the funding level. In 2023, the city fell out of the LGA <br />funding formula, and the city will not receive LGA ĨƇŏċijŏĩ϶ƂİijŹ϶Ƣđêŵϼ϶\[ňƇąƂƇêƂijŗŏŹ϶ijŏ϶Ƃİđ϶ąijƂƢЪŹ϶ <br />certi ǎ ed funding allocation is shown in the table below. <br />Over the last couple of years, our advocacy eorts have focused on revising the LGA formula <br />to allow cities to gradually fall o the formula, and we recommend implementation of a <br />transition mechanism (e.g., a 3-year rolling average) to smooth out funding changes. <br />Formula changes impact small cities disproportionately, as seen in Centerville. LGA is <br />critical for stable, predictable municipal funding.
