CITY OF CENTERVILLE
REQUEST FOR
COUNCIL ACTION
Agenda Item # Department: Requested Council Meeting Date:
August 13, 2025
Administration
VI.6
TITLE OF ISSUE:
Parks & Rec. Recommendation - Scout Troop #136 - Overnight Usage of LaMotte Park - Tent Night (8/21)
BACKGROUND AND SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:
The committee held a lengthy discussion regarding this item. They had concerns regarding the perception of tenting in a local park,
City Code, Chapter 92, Subsection 92.03, 92.08 and variance language 92.30. Staff also noted that Anoka County Radio Club has
been provided the opportunity to conduct their Field Day Exercises on an annual basis at the park, which is a 24/7 event over a
weekend. Scout Leader Brian Peterson stated that as a leader, he su pported the group and abstained from voting.
The committee felt that the Scouts have been instrumental volunteers in the community, that the request was appropriate with the
variance language provided in City Code, Chapter 92, Subsection 92.30 and that signage be posted at the entrance and near the tenting
location that the event was by Special Event Permit Granted by the Citynocampfires.
Note: The LaMotte Park Irrigation system would need to be shutdown for this event. If the event were approved, the committee also
suggested posting on all social media avenues that the event was by Special Event Permit.
COST AND SOURCE(S) OF FUNDING:
N/A
REQUESTED COUNCIL ACTION:
Motion to approve the Parks & Recreation Committee recommendation to support Troop #136's request for
Park Facility Usage/Special Event as submitted with signage as state above and no campfires.
For ClerkÓs Use:
SUPPORTED DOCUMENTS ATTACHED
Motion By: ____________________________________
Resolution Ordinance Contract Minutes Plan Map
Second By: ____________________________________
Vote Record: Aye Nay
_____
Application & Code
Other (specify) ____________
__________
___
_______________________________________________________
_____
_____
_________________________________________________________________________
Administration Department Use:
Refer to: _________________________________
Consent
Tabled Until: ______________________________
Regular
Other: ___________________________________
