City of Centerville <br />Park and Recreation Committee Meeting Minutes <br />April 2, 2025 <br />along with his results. He stated that his project consisted of approximately 22 volunteers, which <br />contributed 122 hours over a period of 12 daysof surveying all parks and individuals in them. He <br />stated that each park was monitored every 30 minutes for a period of two hours. Mr. Peterson <br />stated that Laurie LaMotte Memorial Park saw the highest usage, especially over lunch. Typically, <br />5-10 cars would be parked, and individuals would utilize the trails. He stated that some would <br />just be parked for work breaks. <br />Mr. Peterson thanked the committee and expressed his appreciation for the ability to provide the <br />information for future use and consideration. <br />V.PUBLIC HEARINGS <br /> <br />1. None <br />VI.UNFINISHEDBUSINESS <br />1.Disc Golf – Chairperson Errickson-Grahek reported that the disc golf bid was $7,500, <br />which wasbelow the original motion of not exceed $10,000. She stated that the Public Works <br />Department would recommend concrete launch pad due to poor soil conditions. Chairperson <br />Erickson-Grahek stated that several residents have volunteered to assist in the installation process. <br />She stated that a grand opening would be planned along with a local enthusiast providing a clinic <br />introducing rules, tips and tricks, etc.following the installation. City Clerk Bender stated that <br />Anoka County declined the application for SHIP funding stating that it did not meet the specified <br />criteria. Additional funding would be explored. <br />2.Pickleball Courts – Chairperson Errickson-Grahek provided an update on this item and <br />stated that the courts would be placed within the hockey rink at LaMotte Park. She stated that <br />originally proposed was a total of four courts with three on one side of the basketball court and <br />one additional on the other side of the basketball court. The committee discussed the types of <br />dividers, appearance, storage space, etc. Additional discussion ensued regarding forgoing the <br />previously approved mats due to costs and storage. The committee felt that painting the court lines <br />would be sufficient to determine usage going forward. <br />Committee Member Peterson raised concerns about possible vandalism if the dividers were <br />removable and questioned the potential for the nets. Council Liaison Kubat posed concern for <br />inclement weather and on-going maintenance. Council Liaison Kubat felt that delaying the <br />purchase of netting until the usage is established. Chairperson Errickson-Grahek felt that <br />purchasing all items at once would provide larger cost savings. Additional discussion ensued <br />regarding a suitable netting option to forego possible vandalism. <br />3.Laurie LaMotte Memorial Park RFP’s Subcommittee Update –Chairperson <br />Errickson-Grahek stated that three bids were received, the subcommittee preferred one bid overall <br />with MWP’s proposal standing out for its attractive playground design. It was reported that some <br />of the bids lacked swings which were specifically requested as a desired feature. One of the <br />proposals offered a saucer as an adequate substitution.
