City of Centerville <br />Council Meeting Minutes <br />October 25, 2006 <br />Motion by Council Member Terway, seconded by Council Member Lakso, to <br />approve the Consent Agenda as presented. All in favor. Motion carried <br />unanimously. <br /> <br /> <br />VI. AWARDS/PRESENTATIONS/APPEARANCES <br /> <br />1. Dr. Roger Worner, Centennial School District #12 – Presentation on Centennial <br />School District Highlights, 2005-2006 & Initiatives 2006-2007 <br /> <br />Dr. Worner provided an overview of the financial status of the Centennial School District <br />and the district’s priorities. <br /> <br />Mayor Capra thanked Dr. Worner for appearing before Council. <br /> <br />Mayor Capra stated that she is the City’s historian and has obtain an article from the <br />1940’s or 50’s discussing that the school had difficulties paying teachers. <br /> <br />Mayor Capra stated that she felt the fiscal disparity method utilized by the state for <br />funding was unfair. <br /> <br />Mayor Capra stated that Council Member Lee desired to discuss a recent survey that was <br />forwarded to taxpayers and comments he had received regarding same. Mayor Capra <br />stated that the comments were that the school district should know how to expend the <br />levy funding rather than giving taxpayers the impression that the district did not have <br />viable expenditures in mind for the funding. <br /> <br />Dr. Worner stated that the school district desired to provide taxpayers with an opportunity <br />for input rather than giving the impression that they did not understand the priorities or <br />visions that parents had for the district. <br /> <br />Mayor Capra also stated that Council Member Lee had commented on a recent article in <br />both the Quad Community Press and the Star Tribune referencing total property taxes <br />within communities and Centerville’s ranking moved to highest compared to last year’s <br />th <br />14 in the ranking. <br /> <br />VII. OLD BUSINESS <br /> <br /> 1. Allocation of $924 in the 2007 Budget for Alexandra House Services for <br />Centerville Residents <br /> <br />City Administrator Larson provided an overview of the proposal from Alexandra House <br />for services for Centerville residents. <br /> <br />Council Member Lakso stated that she had concerns regarding the most recent request <br />and felt that the doubling of fees was too expensive and that a figure of $600 or less was <br />Page 3 of 7 <br />
