<br />February 15,2001 <br />Council Meeting Minutes <br /> <br />Council Member Nelson was not present for the vote. <br /> <br />5. Police Commission Chair - Ms. Karen Varian <br /> <br />Mr. March recommended that Karen Varian be appointed as the Chair for the Police <br />Commission. All the candidates impressed the panel, and it was a difficult decision. <br /> <br />Motion by Council Member Broussard Vickers. seconded by Council Member <br />Travis to accept the recommendation of the nine-member panel and appoint Karen <br />Varian as Chair of the Police Commission. All in favor. Motion carried <br />unanimously. <br /> <br />Council Member Nelson was not present for the vote. <br /> <br />6. Staffing Update <br /> <br />Mr. March recommended that Kris Sweeney be promoted to the position of Account <br />Clerk II with a 60-day probationary period. If at the end of the probationary period Kris <br />is performing the duties of the position then the City will advertise to fill the a full time <br />Receptionist position. If at the end of the probationary period Kris is unable to perform <br />the duties of the accounting position, then she would be moved back to the Receptionist <br />position and the City would advertise to fill the accounting position. During the 60-day <br />probationary period, Jill Lien will add an additional day per week to her normal work <br />schedule of three days per week. <br /> <br />Council Member Capra asked if Ms. Lien would be going to full time permanently. Mr. <br />March stated his recommendation is to increase her work schedule to four (4) days per <br />week until the City hires a full time Receptionist and then she would go back to three (3) <br />days per week. <br /> <br />Council Member Nelson asked how many days per week Laura Thompson had been <br />working. Mr. March indicated she was working roughly 32 hours per week. <br /> <br />Council Member Broussard Vickers requested if at all possible any new hire be computer <br />literate to bring a stronger technical knowledge base into the City. <br /> <br />Mr. March stated that if within 30 days Ms. Sweeney has not demonstrated the ability to <br />pick up the task, the City would begin advertising for the position. <br /> <br />Mayor Swedberg clarified that if after the probationary period expires and it is <br />determined that Ms. Sweeney is not fulfilling the duties of the accounting position she <br />would be returned to the Receptionist position. Mr. March concurred. <br /> <br />Motion by Council Member Broussard Vickers. seconded by Council Member <br />Capra to accept the recommendation of Staff to offer the position of Account Clerk <br />II to Kris Sweeney with a 60-day probationary period commencing on February 16. <br />2001.
