MEMO

TO: Parks and Recreation Committee Members

FROM: Kim Stephan

SUBJECT: Updates

DATE: March 2, 2007

Skate Park Equipment

The salesman for GameTime - Minnesota/Wisconsin Playground, Mr. Harlan Lehman, dropped off
information on everything from play structures to skate park equipment and pavilions. GameTime is
the company, and Mr. Lehman is the representative, that the committee went with for the play structure
at Laurie LaMotte Memorial Park. They also handle the shredded tire product.

After looking through the catalogs and seeing skate park equipment, I took the liberty of emailing Mr.
Lehman and asking him for quotes on the pieces the committee is looking for. They also have
concrete skate park pieces and the City Administrator has suggested we look at the cost difference, so I
asked Mr. Lehman for information on that also. He has said he will get us the information as soon as
he can and would be more than willing to attend a committee meeting. He also supplied information
on US Communities - Government Purchasing Alliance. Mr. Larson said we definitely can use this as
an alternative to the State of Minnesota Cooperative Purchasing and registered Centerville. There is no
cost to the City to register. Information on this program is included in your packet. I sent the
following email request to Mr. Lehman.

I emailed the Parks & Recreation Committee regarding the information you dropped off this morning
and gave them your contact information. In looking through the catalogs I see you have skate park
equipment also. We have (had) skate park equipment from three (3) different manufacture; Sun
Ramps, Skate Wave and Rhino. Three (3) pieces were removed last fall as they had become safety
hazards. The pieces removed were Sun Ramp, turned out to be fiber board under the rubberized
coating. This equipment was installed in 2001. Removed were two (2) quarter pipes that were 9.0' x
12.0' and a spine that was 8.0' x 10.0' - all were 3' tall. We would like to install similar equipment,
perhaps afun box instead of a spine; we do have an existing 14.0' x 17.0' fun box by Skate Wave.
Public Works Staff and the committee have been happy with the Rhino equipment that we purchased
and had installed through DuraFun. The equipment is enclosed so people and things cannot get in or
under it. The Skate Wave equipment is heavy and metal making it louder which has a tendency to
bother the neighbors; it also needs to be painted. I believe that was also purchased in 2001. Our City
Administrator, Dallas Larson, has also suggested we look at what it would cost to install concrete. I
see you also deal in concrete skate park equipment. At this time we have approximately $17,000 to
work with. Can you provide us more information and perhaps some prices with the information I
have supplied?

10f3
