Parks & Recreation Meeting Minutes 11-05-03

The residents who responded to the survey were interested in a tennis court, picnic shelter,
basketball court, volleyball court, horse shoe pits, a soccer field, walking path, more play
ground equipment, or an open field for football and baseball.

E. Wheels Skate Park

Committee Member Peil reported the Wheels Skate Park Subcommittee has not met, but were
waiting to see the results from the survey done on the Tracie McBride Memorial Park to help
determine what the residents were interested in. The results are leaning towards keeping
Wheels Skate Park at Laurie LaMotte Memorial Park with a possible smaller skate park
addition to Acorn Creek Park. Financially it makes more sense to leave it at Laurie LaMotte
Memorial Park and pour an asphalt pad while the parking lot is being done next year.
Discussion was had as to where the pad would go at Laurie LaMotte Memorial Park and how
big it would need to be. The subcommittee, with the help of Public Works Staff will get some
measurements for the area south of the pleasure rink. This could perhaps be put out for bids
this winter so the equipment will be able to be installed in the spring. There would still be
room for a soccer field as it is not an adult size soccer field, but a youth size soccer field.

YMCA Park Plav Davs

Committee Member Peil reported she spoke with Ms. Janice Smith from the YMCA in regards
to the Park Play Days held at Laurie LaMotte Memorial Park the first two weeks of August,
2003. The YMCA is interested in offering an expanded program in 2004 and will present a
proposal in the spring.

Centennial Hockev Association - Use of Ice Rink at Laurie LaMotte Memorial Park

Chairperson Peterson talked to Ms. Jodi McGregor, Outdoor Ice Coordinator from the
Centennial Youth Hockey Association regarding their recent request for ice time at Laurie
LaMotte Memorial Park ice rink for the 2003-2004 season. The association had requested
additional time, but Chairperson Peterson informed Ms. McGregor that the committee felt the
time allotted last season was all that was available as the rinks needed to be available for the
use of Centerville residents. This time will be scheduled for Monday through Thursday with a
half sheet of ice reserved for the hockey association from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. and the entire rink
reserved for the hockey association from 8:00 to 9:00 p.rn. Ms. McGregor will be responsible
for scheduling the time. She also noted that coaches/parents will be asked to help shovel the
rink as needed. Chairperson Peterson, as a Public Works employee stated that he would prefer
volunteers did not flood the rink without staff in attendance as it has caused too many
equipment problems in the past. The ad to hire rink attendants will be placed in the next few
weeks as the rink usually opens around Christmas.

vm. FINANCIALS

Vice-Chairperson LeBlanc would like to see the financials represented differently and will
email his request to the Finance Director.

4of5
