INSTAllATIONS:

Far too often installation is treated as an after thought, and this practice, however widespread, often
leads to unwanted problems. The correct installation of your SIGN-FoAM3@ sign will not only ensure a
long lifespan to your sign, but also add substance, mass, as well as interest, thus drawing additional
attention to your sign. There are as many installation methods as there are signs; this section will
review some of the more common installation methods that have been used successfully for many
years. SIGN-FOAM3@ installations generally fall into one of three main categories: Ground mounts, Wall
mounts and Hanging signs.

GROUND MOUNT
The most common mounting technique is the ground mount, including both back post and side post
mounts.

For a single-sided sign, a back post mount is a strong and effi-
cient method. As the name suggests, the sign is attached to a
mounting structure that is completely behind the sign. This
method generally incorporates two lengths of treated lumber
(usually 4"x4" or 4"x6"), that are used as posts. These posts are
connected by a 2"x4" that extends across the back of the top or
bottom of the sign. This cross-member not only provides addi-
tional mounting points, but it adds rigidity to the sign, as well.

For back post installations, run a deck screw or other
fastener through the face of the sign and into the
posts in back, using bondo or spackling compound
to cover the screw head.

SIGNS OF THE TIMES

32

r,_-.~..:VY.>-':' ., _ , "-- ---;- ---.--::-~------7?"--""~-"--'-""'-,~
