Background As a citizen of Centerville for the past 6 years, I have come to appreciate the natural and man-made beauty, the historical significance. and the high potential Centerville has as a sate11itebedroom community for the Twin Cities metropolitan area. 'Its potential to attract people seeking entertainment and recreation is also high. yet largely untapped. As a member of Centerville's Park and Recreation Commission. I know first hand that the existing Comprehensive park plan is outdated and offers inadaquate detail for development. In response to current land development proposals the city is reviewing, the Commission must make recommendations for park land aquisitions and park dedication fees, The Commission must identify a park master plan and specific site development objectives to make informed and comprehensi\.'e recommendations to the city, As a student of landscape architecture, I feel that my knowledge and experience can be applied to help Centervil1e identify its future park plans. Past research pa.pers that I have conducted about Centerville include: "Centerville. Minnesota: History of the Land;" "Feasibility Report on Establishing a Linear Park/Trail Corridor Along Clearwater Creek Within the City of Centerv.ille;" ang "Following Land Use Change in Centerville. Minnesota Through Aerial Photo Interp-!"etation," ~, I intend tn' incorporate city. park. and recreation planning theories: design principles: and research analysis to create a document that will be a useful guide and tool. rather than a report filed away and not referred to, Centerville must look at its role as a part of the metro area. It has within its boundries the entran ce to the Anoka County Rice Creek-Chain of Lakes Regional Park which is connected to a larger system of parks. The opportunity to link into this system will be incorporated into the master plan as well as other metropolitan resources and user needs.
