<br />Purpose of Study <br /> <br />The study addresses the need that Centerville has for <br />an updated park master plan t.p.at includes a sense of <br />identity. purpose. and future for its park program, <br /> <br />Parks are an integral part of the American city. They <br />provide the facilities and open space for to days' <br />residents and are the legacy I?f public land that we <br />leave for future generations to share and use for <br />their needs. <br /> <br />Centervil1e is experiencing rapid growth, evolving <br />f.rom a small rural town into a bedroom community <br />fot the Twin City metropolitan area. Developments <br />are being proposed fot large portions of the open <br />space that comprises about two thirds of the <br />approximately six square, miles within the, city <br />boarders. <br /> <br />Since Centerville has a park dedication fee of ten <br />percent of developed land or fee in lieu. the <br />developments proposed offer an opportunity to plan <br />~d b~ild a park sYstem that will include all areas of <br />the city and will work as a whole, To do this means <br />identifying appr9priate lands for aquisition and <br />setting forth development plans that will fulfill the <br />needs of to days , residents as 'Yell as the future <br />generations of Centerville, <br /> <br />The purpose of the hub site design is to unite <br />Centervi11e's 'major public spaces, to establish <br />pedestrian .priority and to express the historic <br />character,- <br />
