,

Parks & Recreation Committee
Meeting Minutes March 2, 2005

IV. APPEARANCES

Mr. Drew Johnson and Mr. Dana Johnson made an appearance to discuss the Adopt a Wood
Duck Project. The project was approved recently by the Indianhead Council and is now moving
forward. The Indianhead Council made a few changes such as instead of 15 wood duck houses,
there will be 30 offered for adoption in the community. Mr. Drew Johnson had applications
ready which he handed out to the committee members and left copies to be made available at
City Hall. Ms. Stephan will promote this project on the web site and cable with information
supplied by Mr. Drew Johnson. Committee Member Peil suggested approaching Northern Forest
Products for a possible donation of materials for the project, such as wood chips. Chairperson
Peterson asked if there were any orders at this time. Mr. Drew Johnson said a few neighbors had
expressed interest and there were Parks & Recreation Committee Members previously interested
in adopting houses. Chairperson Peterson asked about fund raising and whether donations were
being solicited from other groups or was it being entirely funded by donations from those
adopting wood duck houses. Mr. Johnson was not sure at this point, it will depend on the
response he receives. The houses will be ready to install in May, as soon as the ground thaws.

VI. COMMI1TEE BUSINESS

Chain of Lakes YMCA Park Plav Davs

Ms. Jen Smith, Chain of Lakes YMCA requested the Parks & Recreation Committee consider the
following request.

A seven (7) week program, July through most of August.
Mondays & Wednesdays for ages 8-12
Tuesdays & Thursdays for ages 4-7
10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Sports themed, but we will also otTer crafts and other cooperative games
$56 for the entire 7 weeks ($2/hr)

The YMCA would like to offer Park Play Days at Laurie LaMotte Memorial Park as we have the
past two years, but make the program longer - 7 weeks as opposed to the two or three weeks that
we have done in the past. This would be an option for kids who are home with parents, but need
something to do for part of the day, and it would be for the whole seven weeks, not a pick and
choose thing.

The Parks & Recreation Committee would like to support this program and made the following
motion:

Motion was made by Vice-Chairperson LeBlanc, seconded by Committee Member Peil to
recommend to City Council approving the Chain of Lakes YMCA Park Play Days at
Laurie LaMotte Memorial Park for the 2005 summer season and the use of the warming
house for the program. All in favor. Motion passed unanimously.

Chairperson Peterson questioned the $300 donation the Parks & Recreation Committee made in
2004 to defray the cost of the program to the residents and what it was used for.

20f5
