Parkland Dedication Ordinance It is important to note that the city has adopted a parkland dedication ordinance. This ordinance requires prospective developers of major subdivisions to dedicate parkland to the city equal to 10% of the acreage of the'subdivision or, if acceptable to the city, cash-in-lieu of land. Since enactment of the ordinance, the city has acquired no park sites. Issues and Objectives The city has recognized the need to establish a practical park system plan ,and has addressed it in the following: Community Issues *Neighborhood parks are needed to provide play areas close to home. Although the regional park will provide a large area for different types of activities, parks within easy walking distance to residences are needed, with such facilities as a ballfield, playground equipment, etc. Community Objectives *Provide park facilities to meet local needs. Identify facility needs (talk with park board, citizens). Determine areas of greatest need. Identify suitable sites: space, location, availability. Coordinate park acquisition and development needs with develop'er towards fulfillment of park land dedication requirement. Look for further school/park coordination. Examine financial assistance options. Park Needs The following table summarizes Centerville's current and future park land needs relative to nationally accepted standards.
