<br />) <br /> <br />..1 <br /> <br />TO: Parks and Recreation Committee Members <br /> <br />FROM: Kim Stephan <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Frozen Fete des Lacs 2005 <br /> <br />DATE: December 30, 2004 <br /> <br />Frozen Fete des Lacs 2005 <br /> <br />The following memo was sent to City Council from the Economic Development Committee. The <br />committee's recommendations were approved at the December 20, 2004 City Council Meeting. <br /> <br />Mr. Paul Palzer and Mr. David Kapaun, representatives of the International Car Races on Ice made an <br />appearance at the December 14, 2004 Economic Development Committee Meeting to discuss the Car Races on <br />Ice and coordinate the event with Frozen Fete des Lacs. Mr. Palzer has contacted the appropriate people at <br />Anoka Count)', the DNR and the Sheriffs Department. The committee discussed where the snowmobile trail <br />comes onto the lake and what will need to be done in the event there is significant snow to ensure the safety of <br />snowmobilers, racers and spectators. For the 2004 Car Races on Ice and Frozen Fete des Lacs the Public Works <br />Staff helped plow the race track on Centerville Lake and made snow piles on the lake for the snow sculpture <br />contest. The EDC and Ice Racing Association would request the same assistance for 2005 with the addition of <br />plowing an ice skating rink on Centerville Lake and the use of the City ofCenterville's generator to light the ice <br />skating rink for the Skate Night being held on Friday, February 18th. <br /> <br />Motion was made by Committee Member Rehbine, seconded by Chairperson Burke to request Public <br />Works Staff assist in preparation for Frozen Fete des Lacs/Car Races on Ice, with equipment and staff <br />time. AU in favor. Motion passed unanimously. <br /> <br />In 2004 the expenditures for Frozen Fete des Lacs were $2,200. <br /> <br />Motion was made by Committee Member Rehbine, seconded by Chairperson Burke to recommend to <br />City Council approving expenditures not to exceed $2,500 from the 2005 EnC Budget for costs associated <br />with Frozen Fete des Lacs. All in favor. Motion passed unanimously. <br /> <br />FYI on Frozen Fete des Lacs <br /> <br />Vice-Chairperson Smith has been in contact with Anoka County in regards to using the Anoka County Chain of <br />Lakes Regional Park and is expecting a letter with approval for the use of the park, a bonfire and the horse <br />drawn hayride. Anoka County will also plow the road, parking lot and trail if notified a few days prior to the <br />event. Vice-Chairperson Smith also contacted Bunker Hills Stable regarding the rental of the horse drawn <br />hayride and was given the same price quote as last year ($550) and tentatively scheduled the event for 6:30 to <br />9:30 p.m. Friday, February 18, 2005. The stable will send a contract which needs to be signed and returned with <br />a $100 deposit, the balance to be paid at the event or shortly thereafter. <br />
