'\~9tl TO: Honorable Mayor and Council Members FROM: Staff SUBJECT: Parks and Recreation Co1'ml11ttee Recommendations DATE: May 3, 2002 The Parks and Recreation Committee made the following recommendations for Council consideration at their most recent meeting of May 1, 2002: Motion made by Committee Member Walter, seconded by Committee Member Lee ~o recommend to Council the enclosure of two (2) satellites currently located at Acorn Creek Park: and Tracy McBride Memorial Park. The enclosures would be constructed with green treated wood The AcOrn Creek Park enclosure would include a cement, handicapped accessible path/approach from the street. The enclosure projects will not exceed a total of$I,Ooo. WJ.th the construction of these enclosures the Parks and Recreation Committee hopes to alleviate the complaints that these satellites have caused in the past. The Parks and Recreation Committee does not intend on enclosing the satellite at Laurie LaMotte Memorial Park due to the relocation of same on an annual basis for special events (Fete des Lacs, etc.). Eagle Park is sufficiently enclosed by a wooded area and there will not be a satellite at Royal Meadows Park due to ~ndalimn and destruction of property occurring at this park. Motion made by Committee Member LeBlanc, seconded by Committee Member Lee to recommend to Council the hiring of Skate Park Attendants. The attendants will staff the park between the hours of 4:00 p.m and 8:00 p.rn.. seven (7) days a week. City StaffwiD determine and hire the appropriate amount of attenilant~ handle the hiring process and supervise these part-time attenilant!J. The hiring of attendants will not exceed $5,000 for the 2002 skate park season. The Parks and Recreation Committee also desires that Council requests additional police patrol of the park when an attendant is not on duty. Please find the attached Parks and Recreation volunteer brochure, the Committee requests Council input on same. The Committee intends on placing these brochures 8t City Hall and used as an information tool and opportunity for residents to participate in their COmm1Jl'ltty.
