The Parks & Recreation
Recommendation Memo addresses the satellite enclosures and the skate park attendant. What
they approved at the meeting last night (5-8-02) is as follows: .

You requested $1,000 for the enclosures. The mayor was concerned with asbestos in green
treated wood and would like you to use an alternative, cp3 was suggested. For this reason
they approved $1,500 since any alternative will be more expensive than green treated. All
other suggestions regarding the enclosures were approved.

The council approved $5,000 for the skate park attendant with the suggestion that any
attendant be 20+ years old as teenagers might have a problem interacting with peers as an
authority figure. Ms. Moore-Sykes will start the hiring process. Details have not yet
been worked out on this. Any input? The council is aware the position is proposed at
$8.00, so 20+ may not be reasonable.

I called Kathy yesterday afternoon to ask her advise as I realized council had not
approved the Wargo Summer Program. We decided to ask for funds for advertising, although
we were not sure what type or how much funds. In the attached 'Wargo' memo Teresa
specified $500 for the program itself and $350 for advertising. We had this added to last
nights agenda. Again, I. did not realize I needed to bring these motions to the council. I
assumed the chairperson or council liaison followed up on any recommendations or motions,
so we missed this. In your approved minutes from 4/3/02 it says 'Motion was made by Ms.
Peil, seconded by Mr. LeBlanc to accept the Wargo Nature Summer Park Program as laid out
by Mr. Murowski and charge a $2.00 prepaid fee per child.' it does not say recommend to
council. Nothing had been done about this and the program is supposed to start June 11.
Is it a done deal with Todd or does some type of contract need to be signed? Parks & Rec.
does not meet again until June 5. Nothing was decided about advertising. In the April 3
minutes it says Karla would check with the paper and Kathy would do up a flyer so
advertising could.start in May. I mentioned in a memo to you at the last meeting that
Rhonda from Wargo told me the school would distribute flyers as long as the program was
offered free of charge or with financial assistance to those in need of it. I can get it
on the sign in front of City Hall and on cable, and Kathy said she would work on a flyer.
How do you want to advertise? Linda asked the council for and received $1000 instead of
the $850 requested, so you have some options for advertising. Kathy will come in next week
to work out some of these details. Do you want to let Kathy or I know what your ideas are
about this?

The council has copies of the volunteer brochure with a request for feedback. They
thought it was a good idea and approved printing costs within your budget, if you should
choose to have it printed. Anything else you can think of?

Kim Stephan

1
