<br />Section 3: Describe Proposed Infrastructure Improvement(s) <br /> <br />Using the information provided in sections One and Two, identify and describe the proposed <br />infrastructure improvements(s). <br /> <br />a) Describe the proposed improvements(s) and how it will solve the identified problem. Use <br />the following guidelines to provide a detailed description. If it will help, describe and <br />define the scope of the improvements, provide pictures, diagrams, exhibits, or maps as <br />attachments <br /> <br />The proposed infrastructure constructs an underpass under CSAH 14 at Dupre Road. <br /> <br />. How does the proposed project correct or improve pedestrian/bicycle traffic safety <br />at or near the project site, especially in reducing child injuries and fatalities? <br /> <br />The proposed project eliminates the traffic safety concerns and potential child <br />injuries and fatalities related to crossing CSAH 14 by providing an underpass for <br />access to the elementary school. <br /> <br />. If applicable, describe how the proposed solution improves traffic safety for other <br />users of the facility or system. <br /> <br />Because the underpass will become a component of the walking/bicycling trail <br />system of the city and county, other users will benefit from the project. <br /> <br />. Will the improvements enable or encourage walking along the route(s) for other <br />than school trips? <br /> <br />The underpass and its benefit to safety will result in enabling walking along this <br />route for reasons in addition to school trips. These reasons include walking to <br />downtown businesses; to the church; to the senior housing center; to Centerville <br />Lake; to the Rice Creek Regional Park; to local employers; to the public transit stop <br />(route 275); and, to residential neighborhoods. <br /> <br />b) Has the proposed improvement been developed in coordination with an existing or <br />planned Safe Routes to School plan or Transportation Improvement Plan? <br /> <br />No formal document. <br /> <br />c) Describe how you plan to monitor and evaluate the success of your program. <br /> <br />The change in schools policies encouraging walking/biking to school, the number of <br />students walking/bicycling to school and the number of walkers/bikers traveling on the city <br />trail system. <br /> <br />d) How will the community maintain the proposed facility? <br /> <br />Monthly the underpass will be inspected and cleaned <br /> <br />Minnesota Safe Routes to School <br />2008 Grant Application <br /> <br />;/;/ <br />
