Response: While the overall sensitivity of aquifers in this area of Anoka County may be considered
"high," our review of well log data within the project area indicates a significant thickness of clay
overlying the sand and gravel aquifer from which most domestic wells obtain their water supply.
The table below (modified from the Item 13 table in the EAW) shows the thickness of clay in each of
the identified wells, ranging from 20 feet to 65 feet, with an average thickness of 55 feet of clay in the
wells (overlying the area aquifers). While these wells are primarily drift aquifer wells, the presence of
clay not only protects the drift aquifer from surface contaminants, but also protects all underlying
bedrock aquifers from contaminants that may otherwise infiltrate at the project site.

Unique Owner Address Depth Aquifer Use Clay Thickness
Number (feet) (feet)
126886 Flovd Lamotte 1695 Main Street 69 Drift Domestic 56
142031 Paul Houle 7124 Centerville Road 72 Drift Domestic 56
154341 Ron Van Kleek 7060 Goiffon Street 65 Drift Domestic 20
155862 Mickey Peloquin 7084 Centerville Road 78 Drift Domestic 60
155889 Joe Lacasse 7072 Centerville Road 72 Drift Domestic 60
163273 Richard Carpenter 7095 Centerville Road 79 Drift Domestic 65
169296 Randv Zarbock 1745 Heritage Street 66 Drift Domestic 56
176066 AI Augustine 7064 Centerville Road 65 Drift Domestic 49
176073 Harold Rivard 7046 Centerville Road 68 Drift Domestic 62
182913 Charles Underwood 7128 Progress Road 65 Drift Domestic 24
194483 Helen Turcotte 7073 Centerville Road 66 Drift Domestic 58
431482 Paul Anderson 7082 Progress Road 75 Drift Domestic 60
439185 John Mishler 1740 Heritaqe Street 71 Drift Domestic 62
439246 Jim Mannino 1680 Sorel Street 92 S1. Based on this standard, it would appear that the utilized drinking water aquifer(s) directly
underlying the project site have more-than-adequate geologic protection to be classified as "Iow" in
vulnerability. While it is possible that contaminants may still enter wells in the project area, either
through horizontal flow within the aquifer from off-site sources or through vertical transport through
improperly constructed (or abandoned wells), the overall likelihood of contamination from activities in
the project area affecting the underlying aquifers appears to be low. Mitigation of contamination risks
should target ensuring that any wells in the project area are properly maintained and that any
abandoned wells are properly sealed to meet Minnesota Well Code.

Centerville
Downtown Redevelopment

Page 8
