City Attorney, Jim Hoeft, warned that ordinance language to grant or deny variances for
nonconforming structures could present problems. However, general standard is to attempt to
bring all properties into conformity.

The Council discussed rezoning properties adjacent to the shoreland, thus, allowing an existing
structure to be rebuilt in a specific zone. In addition, if a structure is demolished, to be
remodeled, then the new structure would become non-conforming. Therefore, 51 % of an
existing structure must remain in tack, in order for a property not to lose its nonconforming use.

Councilmember Brenner requested Staff retrieve input from two lake associations.

Ms. Broussard-Vickers left the meeting at 5:45 p.m.

Councilmember Brenner moved and it was seconded by Councilmember Buckbee to adiourn
at 5:45 p.m. Motion carried.

The Joint Workshop with the Planning and Zoning Commission adjourned at 5:45 p.m.

******************************************************************************

Mayor Wilharber called the August 26, City Council Meeting to order at 6:05 p.m.

PRESENT: Mayor Wilharber
Council Members:

Theresa Brenner
Sanna Buckbee
Mary Jo Helmbrecht

ABSENT:

Councilmember Laura Powers

STAFF:

Jim March, City Administrator
Ry-Chel Gaustad, City Clerk
Paul Palzer, Public Works DirectorIBuilding Official
Dave Nyberg, H.R.
