-

1996 VEHICLE OPERATIONS & MAINTENANCE

In February of 1996, two (2) new Ford Crown Victoria squad cars were obtained VIA a leasing program.
It is our belief that by leasing our fleet, we can avoid significant annual capital outlays. While at the same
time maintaining a quality fleet. These new squad cars replaced the two high mileage Ford Crown
Victoria squad cars. These new squad cars were designated P-3 and P-5. One of the squads, P-5 is a fully
marked squad car with a light bar. The other new car, P-3 is a fully marked squad car without the light
bar, "clean top".

In March of 1996, we purchased a 1996 Ford Windstar Mini Van. This van was purchased VIA donated
funds and will be used primarily by the CSO. It is a fully marked unit with Amber lights and siren.

In December of 1996, this department was fortunate in obtaining a retired United States Government
vehicle at no cost to this department. This vehicle, 1990 Chevrolet Corsica 4 door has been assigned to
replace the 1987 Dodge Omni currently used by the investigator.

In 1996, this department began assigning vehicles to individual officers. This new program usually
consists of 2 officers per vehicles. This enhances ownership as well as accountability of our vehicles.
Vehicle assignments are as follows:

*P-1 1995 Chevrolet Caprice-Assigned to "A" shift and "D+"

P-2 1994 Chevrolet S-l 0 4X4 Blazer-Assigned to special details-adverse weather

P-3 1996 Ford Crown Victoria-Assigned to "E/ A" shift and "D+/C"

P-4 1995 Chevrolet Caprice-Assigned to "E" shift and "D/B"

*P-5 1996 Ford Crown Victoria-Assigned to "C" shift and "B"

P-6 1990 Chevrolet Corsica-Assigned to Investigations

P-7 1996 Ford Windstar Mini Van-Assigned to the CSO and special details

*Sgt. Makela shared these two vehicles 3 days each during his shifts

In 1996, a total of 171,100 miles were driven by our fleet. During the same period in 1995, we drove
145,700. This increase in miles over 1995 is due to many factors:

1) An increase in fleet size, P-7 was added.
2) P-7 was driven to Arizona with the explorers
3) Mileage in the Investigators vehicle increased
4) Officer Guy offFTO and on his own

No Major expenses were incurred during 1996 involving our squad cars.

Respectfully Submitted,

~

Officer Todd Gleason
Fleet Maintenance Officer
