~

WEAPONS TRAINING 1996

During 1996, Anoka County sponsored four (4) qualifYing shoots. They were as follows:

March 1996,
Anoka City Gamma Shoot, low light adverse shooting conditions done on a projection
VCR screen, consisting of ShootINo Shoot scenarios using live ammo.

April I 996-Spring Shoot,
Anoka County out door range, 25 yard to 3 yard shooting at silhouette targets using live
ammo.

June 1996-Summer Shoot,
Anoka County out door range, 25 yard to 3 yard, Moving Target-ShootINo Shoot
scenarios using squad cars and live ammo.

November I 996-Night Shoot,
Anoka County out door range, 25 yard to 3 yard, Turning-Low Light ShootINo Shoot
Scenarios using red lights on squads, stress oriented.

In the summer of 1996, two additional Colt SMG squad rifles were purchased. This will bring our total to
four (4) Colt SMG's, one for each of our patrol squad cars. These 9mm semi-auto compact rifles will
replace the less accurate 12 Gage shot guns in the squad cars. These rifles are locked in place for security
while in the squads.

In the fall of 1996, Officers Gleason and Frank attended the Smith & Wesson Academy in Springfield,
Mass. The course was called, Close Quarter Battle Pistol. This four day course dealt with confrontational
shooting involving close proximity to the target. Over the four days, Gleason and Ftank shot over 3,500
rounds of ammunition each. Most of this shooting was done within 3 feet of the target. Simulation of
terrorists acts involving a bus or airplane were practiced. The use of night vision training was conducted
as well as the use of simunition.

Even though our police department may never have a call for a hostage situation on a bus or airplane,
both Frank and I agree that the benefit from this type of training can be useful while training our officers
on the street. We hope that this type of training may be attended by our Range/Weapons in the future.

In 1996, the Circle PineslLexington Police Department consisted of twelve (12) full time and three (3)
part time officers. These officers weapons consisted of:

7 Officers-9mm
5 Officers-40 Cal.
2 Officers-IOmm
I Officer-.357 Cal.

Respectfully Submitted,
Officers Todd Gleason & David Frank
WeaponslRange Officers
