~

GANG TASK FORCE - 1996

The Anoka County Gang Task Force reported very little gang activity in 1996. Monthly meetings had very few
participants which is rather positive, although I am not sure it can be credited to our efforts. Meetings were again
postponed over the winter months and resumed in April. It was also decided to try meetings every other month
beginning in April, this may gain more participation.

In 1996, the three cities saw no activity we were able to directly link to "gangs". Each city did however, have it's
share of "tagging" once again. This was linked back to juveniles in the communities, not gangs.

In working with programs the Gang Task Force has helped to implement, we conducted several curfew sweeps in
conjunction with Lino Lakes. These were done to help cut down on tagging vandalism and theft late at night. For
the most part these were very successful as several juveniles were taken into custody. However, we did not find as
many as we felt we might find roaming the neighborhoods. I believe this is due in part to the excellent work and
enforcement from the night shift officers regularly working the street.

In 1996 Waterworks hosted only a few teen nights. These were held without incident. It does not appear that
many more teen nights will be held in the coming year, and the officers working the street should be able to handle
the problems.

Respectfully submitted
Officer Ronald C.
