~

CRIME PREVENTION

CRIME PREVENTION: IT'S ONE OF THE MOST EFFECTIVE AND LEAST COSTLY WAYS TO PREVENT
AND REDUCE CRIME.

NEIGHBORHOOD CRIME WATCH

Currently, I have twenty one (21) Neighborhood Crime Watch Groups, fifteen (15) in Circle Pines, four (4) in
Lexington, and two (2) in Centerville. I continue to attempt to form new groups. All the neighborhoods work
hard to keep their groups active and alive.

National Night Out was once again a success. Ninety nine percent of the groups participated, even though the
temperature was 100 degrees and the humidity was high. McGruff was unable to make an appearance, however,
the Fire Departments did. They visited all the groups and even helped cool them off. As in the past, crime in the
Neighborhood Crime Watch areas is low, thanks to the residents who belong to the Neighborhood Crime Watch
Groups.

MCGRUFF HOUSE

This is a safe place for kids and adults to go if they find themselves lost or frightened. Thankfully, the McGruff
Houses were used a couple times last year. With an immediate police response, all were kept safe.

We have thirty six (36) McGruff Houses, twenty three (23) in Circle Pines, five (5) in Lexington, and eight (8) in
Centerville. 1 am hoping to double these numbers in the following year.

SAFETY CAMP

This camp increases a child's knowledge and awareness of all aspects of safety, while having fun. This camp is a
coordinated effort between the Circle Pines-Lexington and Lino Lakes Police Departments, the Centennial and
Lexington Fire Departments, and the Lino Lakes Parks Department. The day of the camp, the children get to
interact with Police Officers, Fire Fighters, and Park and Recreation personnel, who are all counselors. At the end
of the day the kids walk away with more then a smile on their faces. They walk away with knowledge, and hugs
from the counselors.

The topics that where covered at this year's camp were:
Bicycle Safety, Drug Awareness, Fire Safety, First Aid, Personal Safety, Wilderness Safety,
Water safety, Electrical Safety.

Respectfully submitted,

Cindy Elofson
Community Service! Crime Prevention Officer

~
