Motion carried unanimously.

APPEARANCES:

4

Ed Wiegert - Meter Reading Systems US Filter/Water Pro, Inc. Mr. Wiegert
explained he has worked with Centerville for many years, supplying hydrants,
infrastructures and the like. Mr. Wiegert was present to explain the automated
technology of three meter reading systems: Touch Read, Radio Read and Phone Read.

The Touch Read is a hand held unit which reads used units at each house. Radio Read has
a Meter Transceiver (MXU) which sends out a marked tone to retrieve information then
deactivates the battery. The Radio Read is used from a vehicle and has a $20.00 battery
that last eight to ten years.

The Phone Read has a Meter Interface Unit (MID) which allows the city to retrieve used
units on demand, the information is sent to a computer where the data is calculated. The
Phone Read system is hooked up to a RJII jack therefore does not require a battery.
During installation and programming the computer uses a "call inbound technology"
option which rings only to the meter not to the phone. If the city needs an immediate
reading there are two retrieving options available First, the "Tone Initiator" is available if
no one is home or there is no answering machine. Second, is the "Ring Initiator" letting
the phone ring 128 seconds or rougWy 16 rings, which activates the reading system to call
the computer and give a read out. If the resident makes a call when the computer is
gathering information the computer will dislodge itself from the system then try at another
time.

t

~1r. Wiegert would encourage a community like Centerville to review the opportunities
available. Mr. Wiegert suggested looking at these alternatives with the city's current

'J
