Meeting Minutes - CC
Special Police Se~vice Meeting
Octobe~ 17, 1990
page th~ee

dated Octobe~ 10, 1990, it was questioned whethe~
Ci~cle/Lex would ~econside~ thei~ p~oposal taking out
the Community Se~vice Office~ and vehicle. Would it be
possible to p~ovide C~ime P~evention p~og~ams th~ough
the office~s assigned to Cente~ville. If the above
adjustment could be made the cost of se~vice (taking
into account $13,000 fo~ Police State Aid) would be
app~oximately $104,000.

In ~esponse to Council membe~ Pelton's question of the
possibility of a ~evised p~oposal f~om Ci~cle/Lex, the
Cle~k/Administ~ato~ left the meeting to contact the Circle/Lex
Police Chief Dave VanBu~kleo. In the telephone conve~sation
Chief VanBu~kleo appea~ed ~eceptive to opening negotiations fo~ a
cont~act, minus the Community Se~vice Office~ and vehicle. It
was estimated that app~oximately sixteen hou~s pe~ day of in City
cove~age. The Cle~k/Administ~ato~ ~etu~ned to the meeting and
~elayed the above info~mation.

A summa~y of fu~the~ Council comments a~e as follows.

Mayo~ Habe~man:
-Conce~ned as to whethe~
as Ci~cle/Lex would
-His p~ima~y conce~ns
p~evention.

Cente~ville needs as much cove~age
p~ovide.
in this issue a~e costs and c~ime

Council membe~ Bu~gstahle~:
-With the Ci~cle/Lex cont~act the~e is a t~ade off fo~
communication and cont~ol.
-Prefers the Ci~cle/Lex p~oposal if it can be attained fo~
under $105,000. With a stretch this should be
affo~dable.

Council membe~ Buckbee:
-The dolla~ amounts to cont~act with Lino Lakes o~
Ci~cle/Lex is about the same. It appea~s that
Ci~cle/Lex would provide more service and more cont~ol.
-He is not in favo~ cont~acting with Lino Lakes due to the
inability to wo~k with them and the question of limited
accountability. He considers the p~oposal choices down
to Anoka County versus Ci~cle/Lex.

Council membe~ Pelton:
-The cost of cont~acting with Ci~cle/Lex would be slightly
less than that of Lino Lakes.
-Centerville has a good rappo~t with the Ci~cle Pines
Council and Administration.
