City of Centerville
Council Meeting Minutes
April 9, 2008

City Administrator Larson stated that the Fire Steering Committee will be meeting soon
and staff is in the process of recruiting and hiring a new Fire Chief to replace the retiring
Fire Chief. He added that there will be a meeting scheduled soon for the Fire Steering
Committee.

Councilmember Lee reported that the Police Commission will be meeting next week.

City Engineer Statz presented a diagram for the proposed decorative concrete project and
a color rendering of the sidewalk plan. He stated that the contractor will make three
yards of concrete for each color for the downtown streetscape and rather than waste the
leftover concrete, it is proposed that it be used at City Hall. He explained that the
sidewalk will be expanded from the existing area and will require some additional curb
cuts for the handicapped parking stalls. In addition, he stated that there will be some
planting areas added to avoid having a path beaten into the ground. He asked if the
Council wanted the decorative sidewalk extended to the south end of the parking lot.

It was the consensus of the City Council to end the sidewalk treatment as depicted
on the drawing and to not extend it.

City Engineer Statz stated that staff will work with the contractor to obtain a price for
additional work associated with the decorative sidewalk and will come back to the City
Council with the cost.

Councilmember Broussard-Vickers slated that if the City is going to incur additional cost
to do the inset on the decorative sidewalk, she would prefer to remove the smaller area
done in color.

City Engineer Statz stated that the design is intended to mimic the pattern in the
downtown area and they will work with the contractor to ensure that it can be done
effectively.

It was the consensus of the City Council to approve the design for the decorative
concrete, subject to final approval ofthe cost.

X.
