<br />CITY OF CENTERVILLE <br />CITY COUNCIL <br /> <br />PROPERTY TAX HEARING <br />DECEMBER 7,1995 <br /> <br />Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, the City Council of the City of Centerville held the <br />property tax hearing on December 7, 1995 at the City Hall. Mayor Wilharber called the <br />hearing to order at 7:00 p.m. <br /> <br />PRESENT: Wilharber <br />Buckbee <br />Brenner <br /> <br />Helmbrecht <br />Powers-Rasmussen <br /> <br />Mayor Wilharber opened the floor to the residents present to ask questions on the 1996 <br />proposed budget. <br /> <br />Lorraine and Rod Henslin, 1967 - 73rd Street, questioned why their taxes went up 42%. <br />The market value of their house increased greatly so the council forwarded them to the <br />County Assessor and stated that a hearing will be held in April with the assessors office. <br /> <br />John Buckbee, 7381 Peltier Circle, Q: How often does the tax assessor go through the <br />city? A: Once every 3-4 years. <br /> <br />John Buckbee - Q: Is it a cost savings to hire a full-time public works/building inspector <br />compared to a contract service. Wilharber believes it provides a better service to the <br />community. <br /> <br />Russ Koski, 7280 Twin Lakes Avenue, introduced himself and asked for explanation for <br />some of the abbreviations on the budget packet. <br /> <br />John Buckbee - Q: The $100,000 transfer from the general fund reserves. Wilharber <br />replied that it is to pay off the 1987 street bond. <br /> <br />John Buckbee - Q: How many new home permits were issued in 1995? A: <br />Approximately twenty. <br /> <br />Dan Kupfer, 1761 Center Street, Q: The increase of staff salaries. A: Status of some <br />employees went to full time. <br /> <br />Floyd Laska, 1393 Mound Trail, Q: When plowing recently why two men are needed in <br />the truck? A: Training of a new employee. <br /> <br />Dan Kupfer expressed concern for the increase of his property and also is concerned about <br />the rate in which the city is growing.
