<br />RESOLUTION <br /> <br />WHEREAS, one of the basic aims of the Veterans of Foreign Wars as <br />set forth in its Congressional Charter is "to foster true <br />patriotism," and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Voice of Democracy Scholarship Program sponsored by <br />the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States and its Ladies <br />Auxiliary, has proven to be an effective instrument for putting <br />these words in action; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Voice of Democracy Scholarship Program, in this its <br />47th year, provides an opportunity for high school students to <br />think, write and speak up for our county and for freedom and <br />democracy; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, this year's theme, "My Commitment to America" focuses <br />the attention of youth on their role as the leaders of tomorrow <br />and how their guidance will preserve democracy as a way of life <br />in our Republic; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, an active, dedicated and resourceful population is vital <br />to the preservation of freedom as our nation continues upon its <br />third century, <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, I Thomas Wilharber, Acting Mayor of the City of <br />Centerville do hereby proclaim October 17, 1993 through October <br />23, 1993, as Voice of Democracy Week in the City of Centerville, <br />and <br /> <br />IN OBSERVANCE THEREOF, I do hereby Qommend the Veterans of <br />Foreign Wars and its Ladies Auxiliary for their sponsorship of <br />the 47th annual Voice of Democracy Program and I call on 10th, <br />11th and 12th grade students in our schools to think, write and <br />speak up for freedom and to address the theme, "My Commitment to <br />America.
