<br />normal agricultural activities. <br /> <br />ALLEY. A public or private way permanently reserved as a secondary means of <br />access to abutting property. <br /> <br />ALTERATION. Any change, addition or modification in construction or occupancy <br />of an existing structure. <br /> <br />ALTERATION, STRUCTURAL. Any change in the supporting members of a <br />building or structure, such as bearing walls, columns, beams or girders; provided, <br />however, the application of any exterior siding to an existing building for the purpose of <br />beautifying and modernizing shall not be considered a STRUCTURAL AL TERATION. <br /> <br />ANTENNA. Any system of wires, poles, rods, reflecting discs, satellite dishes or <br />similar devices used for the transmission or reception of electromagnetic waves external <br />to or attached to the exterior of any building. <br /> <br />APARTMENT. A room or suite of rooms, including bath and kitchen facilities, in a <br />multiple-family building, designed for occupancy by a single family. <br /> <br />APARTMENT, ACCESSORY. An apartment that is secondary and incidental to a <br />principal use or building. <br /> <br />AREA IDENTIFICATION SIGN. A freestanding sign which identifies the name of <br />a residential subdivision, commercial or industrial development. <br /> <br />BASEMENT. A portion of a building located partly underground, having more than <br />50 percent of its floor-to-ceiling height below the average grade of the adjoining ground. <br />Split level, split entry and earth sheltered homes shall be construed to satisfy <br />BASEMENT requirements. <br /> <br />BLOCK. A tract of land bounded by streets, or a combination of streets, parks, <br />cemeteries, railroad rights-of-way, shorelines, waterways or corporate boundary lines of <br />the city. <br /> <br />BOARD. The Board of Appeals and Adjustments of the city. <br /> <br />BOATHOUSE. A structure designed and used solely for the storage of boats or <br />boating equipment. <br /> <br />BUILDABLE AREA. The space remaining on a zoning lot after minimum yard and <br />open space requirements have been met. <br /> <br />BUILDING. Any structure having a roof which may provide shelter or enclosure of <br />persons, animal or chattel, and when the structure is divided by party walls without <br />openings, each portion of the building so separated shall be deemed a separate <br /> <br />7 <br />
