With the economic down turn that we all are living with - this is simply the wrong time for an increase in the property tax rate. This is not an issue of either political party; this is a human issue. From January 2007 to March 2008 there were 22 foreclosures in Centerville. We live with historic high prices for gasoline and for food. The high cost of gas and food are reflected in every thing we buy. Many in our community are out of work or endanger of layoffs. Most of us will either not get a pay raise or will see a reduced pay raise this year. We all understand that the City's 2008/2009 income from property taxes is less that projected. But now is the time for the City to share it's citizens burden in a declining economy. I have met most of you. I know that you are motivated by a single and simply principle - to do what is best for the City and her citizens. What is best for the citizens is to reduce not increase the property tax rate. Thank You for your service to the community. We have a great little community and we all need to work hard to keep it so.
