<br />Pursuant to due call and notice thereof the City Council <br />of the City of Centerville held their regular meeting on <br />Wednesday, March 11, 1987 at City Hall. Mayor L'Allier <br />called the meeting to order at 7:00 P.M. Present: Fritchie, <br />Robischon, Laska, Neumann. <br /> <br />Motion by Robischon, second by Neumann to accept the <br />minutes of the February 25, 1987 meeting, motion carried <br />unanimously. <br /> <br />PETITIONS AND COMPLAINTS: <br />Councilmmb~ Neumann advised that there seems to be a <br />need for a. street light on the intersection of Main Street <br />and 20th Avenue. Clerk will check into the possibility of <br />having a street light put up on that intersection. <br /> <br />Councilmemrer Fritchie was concerned about the naming of <br />new streets. Fritchie suggested the possiblity of having <br />a committee name the streets after persons that originally <br />settled in Centerville, keeping in mind their French <br />heritage. There was a committee such as this many years <br />ago. Clerk will try to locate the persons on the previous <br />street naming committee. <br /> <br />OLD BUSINESS: <br />Discussion on the pickup truck at the Federal Surplus <br />Property Distribution Center. Council members did go to <br />look at the picKup, but found it to be unsatisfactory. <br />The City of Centerville will continue to look for a suitable <br />vehicle. <br /> <br />Discussion of whether to hire a new city attorney. Issue <br />was tabled until next fall. Clerk will notify Mr. Mark <br />Karney, Attorney at Law of this. <br /> <br />Discussion on payment of roads. Senior Citizen Deferment <br />was discussed. This would be the deferral of assessment of <br />persons 65 years of age or older, until the property is <br />sold or in a non-homestead status. The program was initiated <br />by Senator Dahl and is applicable only if the property is <br />homesteaded by the senior citizen. Clerk brought up that <br />this could create a hardship for senior citizens and/or <br />their heirs when the lump sum assessment becomes due. Advise- <br />ment will be sought from Bill Hawkins, city attorney. <br /> <br />Tax increment financing was discussed. ~ngineers have not <br />responded to date. The city attorney has been out of town, <br />but Clerk will check with him when he returns.
