Zoning Commission looked at sign ordinances from numerous cities in formulating this
new ordinance.

Council Member Capra noted the Economic Development Committee has requested that
Council not approve this until it receives clarification on commercial signage concerning
wall signs.

Council Member Nelson stated she objects to home-based businesses with county road
frontage being allowed 24 square feet of signage. Her main concern is for allowing a
commercial type sign in a residential yard.

Council Member Broussard Vickers stated she did not believe there were very many
locations where this new signage would apply.

Council Member Nelson expressed a concern for the size of the sign and stated she
believed the issue was worth the expense and time of re-noticing for a public hearing.
She stated she would be more comfortable if a larger sign were allowed just along Main
Street but not all county roads.

Council Member Broussard Vickers indicated she believed the size of the sign would be
more of a problem along Main Street than along county roads where vehicles travel at a
higher rate of speed.

Mr. March stated he believed based on the speed of traffic, the sign would not appear that
large.

Council Member Broussard Vickers inquired as to the cost of publishing for a public
hearing. Mr. March indicated the cost was approximately $75.

Council Member Nelson would like to remove the last two (2) sentences and allow home-
based businesses a sign of only four (4) square feet.

Motion bv Council Member Nelson. seconded bv Council Member Capra to send
Ordinance #39 back to the Plannin!!: and Zonin!: Commission to review the section
of the ordinance concernine home-based business si!!:ns. Specifically reauestine the
sentence concernin!!: size of si!!:n allowed for businesses with county road fronta!!:e be
deleted. the size of the si!:n remain no lar!!:er than four (4) sauare feet. and the si!:n
not be an interior-illuminated si!!:n. All in favor. Motion carried unanimously.

Council Member Capra noted she would let the Economic Development Committee
know that if there are further questions, a representative should be at the Planning and
Zoning Commission meeting to discuss it.

9. Purchase of a 2001 Ford Sterling Plow Truck

Mayor Swedberg noted Mr. Palzer has put together criteria for the purchase of a new
plow. The current plow is used and the City has budgeted over a three (3) year period for
this purchase.
