<br />Centerville City Council <br />February 12, 2003 <br />Meeting Minutes <br /> <br />This item was handled earlier in the meeting. <br /> <br />Council Member Capra asked for authorization to gIVe funds to Mr. Thill for the <br />purchase of parade flags as previously discussed. <br /> <br />There was Council consent to give Mr. Thill the funds approved by motion last year for <br />the parade flags. <br /> <br />VIII. ANNOUNCEMENTSIUPDATES <br /> <br />1. Potentially Dangerous Dog <br /> <br />Ms. Moore-Sykes indicated that Ms. Wirth has appealed the declaration of her dog as a <br />potentially dangerous dog. <br /> <br />Mayor Sweeney indicated the dog has not been vaccinated for rabies within the last three <br />years and the person bitten should have requested that the animal be retained and tested <br />or observed because undergoing rabies shots is not pleasant. He further commented that <br />the dog went off the property and bit someone. <br /> <br />City Attorney Hoeft indicated that Ms. Wirth would need to appear before Council and <br />provide evidence as to why the dog is not dangerous. <br /> <br />Council Member Broussard Vickers indicated that Ms. Wirth has been advised that the <br />dog needs to be kept in the house for the next 10 days for observation. <br /> <br />Ms. Moore-Sykes indicated Ms. Wirth claims she never received the notice that was sent <br />certified mail as it was not picked up. <br /> <br />Council Member Broussard Vickers asked for the definition information for review prior <br />to the next meeting. <br /> <br />2. Otter Lake Animal Control Services Renewal <br /> <br />Ms. Moore-Sykes indicated that Staff would like additional time to research other options <br />for animal control services as the City has not been entirely satisfied with the services. <br /> <br />3. Legislative Update <br /> <br />Ms. Moore-Sykes indicated that Senator Dick Day has put before the Senate a bill to <br />freeze public service wages for the state, county and cities but the problem is that there is <br />nothing in the bill that would talk about reclaiming that money from the cities or <br />counties. She further commented that it would not pass committee hearings if things are <br />not tightened up. <br /> <br />Page 12 of 15 <br />
