I .\ . <br /> <br />. 1, ., City of Centerville <br />February 13, 2002 <br />Council Minutes <br /> <br />Mayor Swedberg indicated that, at the begitming oflast year the general fund was at 46% <br />and the City wants that to be at 50% because the state is playing games with the city. He <br />then noted he is worried about drawing down the general fund because the City may not <br />have enough cash flow to function. <br /> <br />Council Member Broussard Vickers indicated that there bad not been a transfer from <br />water and sewer for the public works building purchase and commented that should be <br />done. <br /> <br />Mayor Swedberg indicated that it may be possible to attribute 20 or 25% of the cost of <br />the purchase of the building to the sewer and water fund and suggested basing the figure <br />on how the salaries are attributed. <br /> <br />Ms. Bender indicated she would need to research the public works building because a <br />transfer may have been done. <br /> <br />Council Member Broussard Vickers suggested tabling the matter to allow time for Staff <br />to research the issues and report back to council. <br /> <br />Council Member Nelson asked if the building would be a 2001 transfer. Ms. Bender <br />indicated it would be. <br /> <br />Motion bv Couneil Member Brou$S8rd Vieken.. seeonded by Mayor Swedbel'2 to <br />table this matter for further information. AU in favor. Motion earned <br />unanimously. <br /> <br />4. Centennial Lakes Police De,partment Priorities <br /> <br />Mayor Swedberg indicated the Police Commission bad asked for Council's priorities for <br />policing issues within the City. He then asked Council for Members' opinions. <br /> <br />Council Member Nelson indicated that her priority is to offer better coverage with a <br />decrease in costs, for example, a possible merger with Lino Lakes and an emphasis on <br />underage drinking and illegal drug use. She then commented she feh that the Police <br />Commission needed to work within the budget CQnstraints on the salary issue. <br /> <br />Council Member Capra said her number one priority would be street coverage. <br /> <br />Mayor Swedberg indicated one additional officer was hired under a grant program called <br />COPS. He then indicated that the officer would be sworn in the following evening. <br /> <br />Council Member Broussard Vickers indicated she wondered why the salary difference <br />was coming up now as opposed to when Council was discussing the proposed budget. <br />She then commented that she would have thought that the Chief realized there was a <br />disparity when he did the budget for approval. <br /> <br />Page 18 of25 <br />
