<br />City of Centerville <br />City Council Meeting <br />September 10, 2008 <br /> <br />Motion made by Council Member Lee. seconded by Council Member Lakso to <br />approve Res. #08-024 - Proposed 2009 Buded & Tax Levv. All in favor. Motion <br />carried unanimously. <br /> <br />a. Parks & Rec. Research of Non-Phosphorus Fertilizer in Parks <br /> <br />Councilmember Lee reported that Public Works Director Paul Palzar recommended <br />the use of ~hemlawn on the park lawns. He stated that Chemlawn is exempt from <br />non-phosphorus rules, and there has been deep concern raised about that. <br /> <br />Discussion ensued about other nourishments that do not contain phosphorus and are <br />possibly less expensive than Chemlawn. <br /> <br />Councilmember Lee stated that Parks & Rec. would like permission to research <br />other options and possibly get away from Chemlawn. <br /> <br />Councilmember Lakso recommended that they put the next Chemlawn treatment <br />on hold. <br /> <br />Councilmember Paar recommended also asking Chemlawn if they have any non- <br />phosphorus treatments. <br /> <br />Councilmember Lakso stated that Chemlawn is also very expensive, and it would <br />be good to look at other options. <br /> <br />Councilmember Lee stated that the runoff is not just water, and they would not <br />want it to spread to people's lawns. <br /> <br />City Engineer Statz stated that they would be getting water from under the surface. <br /> <br />Mayor Capra stated that the best treatment would be to put runoff water back into <br />the ground. <br /> <br />City Engineer Statz replied that there are a few measures they are looking at to take <br />care of that. He stated that the biggest one is to take water out of the middle of the <br />pond, which will go through a second pond to a third pond, so it will have a lot of <br />treatment <br /> <br />Discussion ensued. <br /> <br />3. Planning & Zoning Commission Recommendation for Site Plan Approval - <br />Mortenson Construction. 6812 - 20th Avenue South <br /> <br />Councilmember Broussard-Vickers reported that Mortenson Construction is looking at <br />buying the location on the comer of 20th and Cedar for a storage-type yard.
