City of Centerville <br />City Council Meeting <br />September 10, 2008 <br />Councilmember Broussard-Vickers stated that the Planning and Zoning Commission had <br />discussions about variances. She suggested that they try to stop looking at variances, and <br />instead look at changing the setbacks if they feel these request should be approved. She <br />stated they had two back-to-back requests for variances that were similar. Some of the <br />Planning and Zoning Commissioners think being that strict is not the way to go. <br />Councilmember Broussard-Vickers stated that the Planning and Zoning Commission has <br />been notified of the Joint Meeting. <br />6. Parks & Recreation -Next Year's Festival Run <br />Councilmember Lee stated that next year's Festival Run is being discussed, and it will be <br />about 8K. He believes there will be a huge turnout. <br />7. Fire & Steering Committee <br />Councilmember Paar stated that the Retirement Party for Chief Milo Bennett turned out <br />great. Some officials spoke about Chief Bennett, and he received agold-plated ax and a <br />$600 gift certificate (from Councils, and Fire Fighters private contributions). <br />Councilmember Paar stated that the number of people that turned out was a tribute to his <br />character. Chief Bennett's son also spoke. <br />Councilmember Paar stated that Chief Milo Bennett was the most laid back guy, but he <br />had a great way of getting things done. The theme was his quiet confidence and the <br />Retirement Party was a good send off for him <br />Clean-Up Day <br />Mayor Capra stated that citizens asked about having aClean-Up Day. She suggested that <br />along with the Clean-Up Day, citizens should be able to bring hazardous items of which <br />they want to dispose. <br />X. ADJOURNMENT <br />Motion by Council Member Paar, seconded by Council Member Lee, to adiourn the <br />September 10, 2008, City Council Meeting. All in favor.
