City of Centerville
Council Meeting Minutes
October 26, 2005
III. AWARDS/PRESENTATIONS/APPEARANCES

1. Mr. Roger Worner, Centennial School District Superintendent

Roger Worner, Centennial School District Superintendent, advised would like to return to
the Council at least once a year to provide an update on the school district. He stated he
does not have a report this evening but would like to address a couple of issues.

Mr. Worner noted he would like the Council to be able to tell residents that they confer
regularly with the Superintendent of the School District.

Mr. Worner provided his background noting the cost effectiveness of running five
elementary schools was an issue when he began with the district. He stated a task force
examined this issue and submitted a report. The report recommended no schools be
closed within the district.

Mr. Worner updated the Council on the district’s current status in regard to operating
budget, size of district and the upcoming referendum. He noted 51 teachers have been
cut in the last few years while enrollment numbers have not decreased.

Mr. Worner stated on of his concerns is that a weakened school district weakens every
one of the communities involved with the school district.

Mayor Capra stated she worked on the task force prior to the building of Blue Heron
Elementary. At the time, the task force determined the building of that school was not
the answer to the long-term problem within the district.
