City Council Meeting Minutes May 13, 1992 Page six originally voted against the Almendinger site. Council member Dario suggested that the City should obtain second opinion on the earth work or site correction proposed by Mjorud Architect. He also felt that it would be beneficial financially for the City to continue to work on moving the building forward to cut costs for paving. The Administrator advised that the Architect has suggested if the City Hall portion of the project is not built, he would decrease his fee. Council member Wilharber noted that he felt the current City building could be altered at a lower cost than estimated, without totally revamping the building. He noted that it was the recommendation of the Centennial Fire District to purchase the Almendinger site. He noted that the site could be used for other City purposes and felt that it may be worthwhile for the City to take one last look at the current City Hall site. John Stewart, City Engineer, reminded the City Council that soil borings could cost up $1,800.00. This would involve engineering fees and additional architectural fees to re-calculated the base work. He also noted that should the City Hall be built at the current site that the storm sewer system within the area will need to be reconstructed. He advised that the City would need to also drill a separate well for the fire station if it were to be located on the current City Hall site. Motion by Wilharber to direct City Staff to obtain soil borings on the current City Hall site at 1694 Sorel Street for a proposed fire station/city hall building, no second motion failed. Council member Dario noted that taking into account Mr. Stewart's clarification of the actual costs to review the current City Hall it may be best to put those monies into the Almendinger site and suggested that City try to cut costs where ever feasible. If the fire hall is all that can built at this time that is what should be constructed. Motion by Dario, second by Pelton to direct the City Staff and Building Task Force Committee to proceed with Mjorud Architect to continue plans for a fire hall/city hall municipal building; the City shall work with Mjorud Architecture and Maier, Stewart and Associates to try to cut costs where ever possible; and when preparing the architectural plans and specifications the city hall portion of the project shall be specificized as an alternate deduct, AYE Buckbee; AYE Dario; AYE - Pelton; NAY- Wilharber, motion @iffi@d:
