<br />.p- Volunteer Rewards Program is initiated <br />This program was developed to reward volunteers and producers for their efforts in <br />producing programming along with promoting the facility. Starting January 1 st, volunteers <br />began accruing points that qualifY them for North Metro 15 products. Each volunteer was <br />given a brochure explaining the program and describing the prizes. Points can be earned for <br />helping on van shoots, studio shoots, taking a class, producing a program or involving <br />someone else in volunteering. Volunteers can earn key-chains, hats, t-shirts, polo-shirts, <br />sweatshirts and jackets emblazoned with the channel 15 logo. <br /> <br />""'- Rewards Program grant <br />Related to the Volunteer Rewards program, we worked with the Minnesota Junior Hockey <br />League Gambling Director, Dean Brandt, to get a $1,000.00 grant to be put toward the <br />purchase ofIogo items, to be given to volunteers. <br /> <br />.;p-- Summer Academy <br />Michele and Joel worked with Paul Augustan to bring the Summer Academy program back <br />to the North Metro Media Center. For three weeks, a large group of talented teen-agers <br />worked with our portable equipment and editing, produced several hours ofIive, in-studio <br />programs, and covered an event utilizing the production truck. The Summer Academy <br />program is designed to offer educational challenges to gifted students, and travels to various <br />regional production facilities, from year to year. <br /> <br /><!I'- Learning Alternatives School <br />The L.A. school utilized the Media Center facility to teach their students the intricacies of <br />television production, for the second year. Cheryl Gustafson, the coordinator of the program, <br />says that working at the Media Center exposes the kids to what goes on behind the scenes in <br />television production, and allows them to make their own programs, have an audience, and <br />see a project through to completion. The program is based out of Spring Lake Park High <br />School. <br /> <br />"""- Tours <br />It would not be much of an <br />exaggeration to suggest that nearly <br />every boy scout troupe in the <br />northern sector of the Twin Cities <br />metro region attended a Media <br />Center tour in 2001. Each visiting <br />group got to see the inner workings <br />of a functioning television facility, <br />watch a production in progress, and <br />produce, star in, and edit their own <br />promo for the channel. The promos <br />produced, during tours, are used <br />around staiIproduced programs such <br />as City Scope and Viewpoint. The <br />scout group is also given a copy of the promo to watch over and over again, at home. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />6 <br />
