, ,
...

ARMSTRONG, TORSETH, SKOLD AND RYDEEN, INe.
ARCHITECTS AND ENGINEERS
MEMORANDUM NO. II

Project Numbers 00082

Page 2

7. Mist-a fire water suppression system instead of an Ansul system in the kitchen hood is acceptable. 3M duct wrap
instead of shaft wall construction at the kitchen hood exhaust duct is acceptable.

8. Banners in the cafeteria will require treatment for acceptable fire spread as was the stage curtain.

9. Bill noted the locations of the makeup air units and the ductwork associated with the kitchen alterations and that the
steps in the new roofing will conceal portions of the new equipment. There is no current City zoning ordinance
requiring screening of rooftop mechanical equipment. Kim will confirm that there is no change of ordinance proposed
to take effect before this summer's construction. Project is scheduled for March issue, bids to be received in April
and construction on-site to begin on June 10,2002 - completion to be this fall.

10. A dumpster screen wall is required - various locations and lengths were discussed - those present agreed on a 12'
length running north - south adjacent to the exterior stair to the loading dock.

II. Bill noted that with Type II -N construction, open 4 sides, and fire sprinkled the maximum code allowable area of
the building is 81,000 square feet. The existing building and addition will total 68,000 square feet. The existing 2
hour area separation waUs are thus not required. No demolition of existing doors across corridors is included in this
project. Some doors at the office will be revised as part of a front entrance alternate and will be 20 minute rated.

12. Fire alarm was upgraded with the last addition. Pull station will need to be relocated adjacent to the new north exit
from the addition if not already existing. Some fire sprinklers were added with the last addition. Location of the
existing fire sprinkler lines were discussed.

13. Curb and gutter are required _ typically B612 is approved - surmountable curb where the District wants to plow snow
is acceptable.

14. Bill noted that the new unit ventilators are vertical units and will have new louvers installed at the exterior wall.
Window replacement will have brick below the new windows. Existing relief air louvers in the sidelites of the
existing classroom doors will be covered with 18 gauge metal plate as the new ventilation is a closed system and air
needs to be circulated and exhausted through the new unit.

15. Existing exit walks to remain. New walk provided from new exit to north at addition. 20 minute rated doors
separating the dock / hallway to custodial space / kitchen from the corridor. Hallway (not corridor) will be between
the loading dock and the kitchen. "High storage" racks will not be provided on the dock. Some palettes of paper may
be stacked but it is not anticipated that the height will exceed 12'.

16. Alternate to increase the size of the loading dock will move the chiller and transformer an additional 4 feet further
east.

17. Submit 8-1/2 x II plans of survey, site plan, floor plans, exterior elevations to the City by Thursday this week for
review by the City Planning Commission on the first Tuesday in March at 6:30. Bill will attend in case there are any
questions.
